Recorded at EMI's Abbey Road Studios, where earlier in the year the Beatles had recorded Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band and Pink Floyd recorded The Piper at the Gates of Dawn. Sadly The Zombies were pretty much disbanded when this got released in 1968 due to lack of financial success.

Since its release the LP has come to be regarded as one of the greatest of all pop albums, with indelible melodies, complex harmonies, and an air of nostalgia and longing that makes it comparable to such albums as Love's Forever Changes and the Beach Boys' Pet Sounds.

It's a masterpiece. Easily as good as any of The Beatles work.

All you need to know is that it's a supergroup consisting of Queens of the Stone Age's Josh Homme, Nirvana/FooFighter's David Grohl (reprising his role on drums) and John Paul Jones from Led Zeppelin. An interesting mix that brings together the sound of all three bands, in one form another. A very interesting listen, especially if you are a fan of all the bands.

After the musical uncertainty of Waterloo Lily, Caravan returned with their most inspired recording since In the Land of the Grey and Pink. The splendidly titled For Girls Who Grow Plump in the Night is several steps ahead in terms of fresh musical ideas that wholly incorporate the band's trademark humor within the otherwise serious and challenging sonic structures. Two of the more dominant reasons for the change in Caravan's sound were the return of keyboardist Dave Sinclair and the addition of violist Peter Geoffrey Richardson. Die-hard fans gladly welcomed Sinclair back, however, Richardson was met with heckles from enthusiasts during live appearances. They were soon silenced as his place on For Girls Who Grow Plump in the Night easily ranks among Caravan's watershed moments.

maudlin of the Well are a small band which served to be the precursor to the band Kayo Dot. Both bands are lead by "master mind" Toby Driver who combined a never-before-seen level of art with metal, allowing the band to reach into areas that progressive music has never been before. Much of maudlin of the Well's music was found through astral projection rather than the more traditional methods of song writing.

maudlin of the Well were active between 1996 and 2003, when they vital things that defined maudlin of the Well as themselves were lost. But there is an obvious connection between both Kayo Dot and maudlin of the Well, which became evident even more when maudlin of the Well regrouped to release their fourth studio album, Part the Second, in 2009. Whether there will be any more future material or not is something to be seen. Kayo Dot will be releasing their new album Coyote in 2010.

The tenth album from Red Hot Chili Peppers guitarist John Frusciante is more psychedelic than his previous releases, and features guest appearances from Johnny Marr and Frusciante's bandmate Flea. 'The Empyrean' is a concept album following a single story throughout, and contains a cover of Tim Buckley's 'Song To The Siren'. It is Frusciante's first solo release in four years and his first since the Chili Peppers went on 'indefinite hiatus'.

To me, this album blows away any of the post-Blood Sugar Sex Magik Chili Peppers music and has a real attitude of its own. On this album Frusciante really shows his distinctive style even in the very opening of the instrumental track Before the Beginning. As a concept album it seems to dwell on relgious topics, especially those associated with Christianity, but somehow manages to keep this concept as an undertone rather than being obvious enough to put non-Christians off.

On the EP, Vennart has explained that the band have taken a stylistic approach on the record; "There’s no big blast beats, no metal, there’s no riffs, there’s no ‘loud loud’ on it. The whole EP is a more gentle affair. There’s stuff on it like Music For a Nurse (from Everyone Into Position ), that sorta stuff....It certainly sounds like us, but it is a bit different.” Vennart added that “the idea of this more-chilled EP is something that we’ve been thinking about way before we got signed. It would be nice to be able to do different albums and EPs, with different flavours. And we thought about how the second album ('Everyone Into Position') was quite scattered, with a million different styles on it and I think that turned a lot of people off in some ways. If you only hear the instrumental techno-blast of "Saviour" from Empires, it would be easy to dismiss this London duo as a faceless electronic act. But nothing could be further from the truth at VNV Nation's performances, exemplified on their third full-length. Not only have they put together a solid album from beginning to end, they've mastered a gloomy and intense approach to contemporary dance music with melodies that are able to extend songs to five or six minutes without getting dull. Judging by its motto that "one should strive to achieve, not sit in bitter regret," it's clear that VNV Nation practices what it preaches. The lyrics are ripe with despair and end of the world scenarios, but that's what makes Empires so powerful.

The Fall of Troy's recent effort, In The Unlikely Event produced by Terry Date (Snoop Dogg - Greatest Hits, Korn - See You On the Other Side) shows them maturing into a new sound but still packs the rawness of their ST/Doppelgänger days. I would say it is definitely worth a listen but in places vocal performance and production does let it down heavily.

Culprate brings some welcome heaviness to the Planet Terror imprint with some genre-defying crossover dubs. Dubstep and breakcore meet in a dark alley late at night, and although it's not clear who wins, the carnage that ensues is well worth sticking around for. From the atmospheric 'Donkey' to the weird cuts of 'Slipper', this is an EP packed with variety and strange contrast that should bring in fans of many different genres. A skilled DJ and original producer, we're happy to have Culprate on board.

After some mishaps and derailing, Converge finally got back on track for their 2009 release Axe to Fall which includes some cool guest appearances from bands such as Cave-In and Genghis Tron (a total of over 15 guest musicians!). Probably Converge's most consistent album so far, with it also being their most accessible and "mainstream" album as well but it's just as brutal as ever. After the dissapointment that was No Heroes, this comes in to show Converge have not lost it!

Despite later efforts being far more pop-orientated, Felt Mountain is a far more trip-hop focused affair with vocals and beats that will please fans of Portishead. While also managing to have an slight taste of pop that helps appeal to a more mainstream audience! This album is very underrated in the world of trip-hop, to me.

Viewed by any as a Prog Rock classic, this album pushed the boundaries of music into something entirely new. This version of the album has been remixed by Steven Wilson (Porcupine Tree, Opeth) into a Stereo version, also included on this single disk version of the 40th Anniversary Edition is 5 bonus tracks which consist of alternative takes and version. Out of the bonus tracks, I would say the Duo Version of I Talk to the Wind is the highlight!
